July is UV Safety Awareness Month!
FCMG recognizes July's UV Safety Awareness Month!
Here are some ways to practice safe UV protection this month and year round:
- Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, even on cloudy days, and reapply every two hours when outdoors.
- Seek shade during peak sun hours (10 am to 4 pm) to minimize direct exposure to harmful UV rays.
- Wear protective clothing like wide-brimmed hats, long-sleeved shirts, and sunglasses with UV protection to shield your skin and eyes.
- Use sunscreen lip balm with SPF to protect your lips from sunburn and potential skin damage.
- Avoid tanning beds and sunlamps, as they emit harmful UV radiation and increase the risk of skin cancer.
- Check the UV Index forecast and plan outdoor activities accordingly to reduce exposure during high UV intensity periods.
- Install window films or blinds that block UV rays to minimize exposure while indoors.
- Consider seeking shade under an umbrella or a canopy when at the beach or poolside to reduce direct sun exposure.
- Regularly examine your skin for any new or changing moles or spots and consult a dermatologist if you notice any abnormalities.
- Educate yourself about UV radiation and its effects to raise awareness among family and friends, promoting sun-safe habits.
And remember, summertime and time at the beach are not the only times you should protect yourself from the sun's damaging rays: UV risks continue year round and exposure to these risks can occur during all kinds of outdoor (and even indoor) activities.
